Statistical Modeling of Solar Flare Activity from Empirical Time Series of Soft X-ray Solar Emission
نویسنده
چکیده
A time series of soft X-ray emission observed on 1974-2007 years (GOES) is analyzed. We show that in the periods of high solar activity 1977-1981, 19881992, 1999-2003 the energy statistics of soft X-ray solar flares for class M and C is well described by a FARIMA time series with Pareto innovations. The model is characterized by two effects. One of them is a long-range dependence (longterm memory), and another corresponds to heavy-tailed distributions. Their parameters are statistically stable enough during the periods. However, when the solar activity tends to minimum, they change essentially. We discuss possible causes of this evolution and suggest a statistical model for predicting the flare energy statistics. Observations of conduction driven evaporation in the early rise phase of solar flares
Context. The classical flare picture features a beam of electrons, which were accelerated in a site in the corona, hitting the chromosphere. The electrons are stopped in the dense chromospheric plasma, emitting bremsstrahlung in hard X-rays. The ambient material is heated by the deposited energy and expands into the magnetic flare loops, a process termed chromospheric evaporation. In this view ...
متن کاملStatistical Models for Solar Flare Interval Distribution in Individual Active Regions
This article discusses statistical models for solar flare interval distribution in individual active regions. We analyzed solar flare data in 55 active regions that are listed in the Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) soft X-ray flare catalog for the years from 1981 to 2005. We discuss some problems with a conventional procedure to derive probability density functions fro...
متن کاملThe North−south Asymmetry of Soft X- Ray Flare Index during Solar Cycles
In this paper the N−S asymmetry of the soft X-ray flare index (FISXR) during the solar cycles 21, 22 and 23 has been analyzed. The results show the existence of a real N−S asymmetry which is strengthened during solar minimum. The slope of the regression lines fitted to the daily values of asymmetry time series has been found to be negative in all the three cycles. The yearly asymmetry curve can...

[1] During Nov. 26–29, 2003 XMM-Newton observed soft (0.2–2 keV) X-ray emission from Jupiter for 69 hours. The low-latitude X-ray disk emission of Jupiter is observed to be almost uniform in intensity with brightness that is consistent with a solar-photon driven process. The simultaneous light curves of Jovian equatorial X rays and solar X rays (measured by the TIMED/SEE and GOES satellites) sh...
متن کاملAn investigation of Fe XVI emission lines in solar and stellar EUV and soft X-ray spectra
New fully relativistic calculations of radiative rates and electron impact excitation cross sections for Fexvi are used to determine theoretical emission-line ratios applicable to the 251–361 Å and 32–77 Å portions of the extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) and soft X-ray spectral regions, respectively. A comparison of the EUV results with observations from the Solar Extreme-Ultraviolet Research Telescop...
